This is only Temporary from the About A Girl series

If you have ever made a moodboard, ripped out photos from magazines to create new looks, or painted over pictures for a new look, then you are probably a fan of collage art, especially as it adds to a new low-fi nostalgia. While most of our skills and coordination is something that only friends can enjoy, some artists out there are making a real revival of collages. Remember that even Picasso had a collage period. One person that stands out in field is twenty two year old, Detroit-based artist Dessi Terieva. What started out as a hobby, now stands out due to her mix of images from old books and magazines to striking use of color.

Let the Good Times Roll from the Digital Age series

While most her work are handmade cut and paste collages, her new series Digital Age were made using Microsoft Paint. Dessi describes her work “Going digital is a result of my current stay in India, where I am material-less, and had the urge to create something! I get to know my characters and their story, ultimately to make them my own. By giving them a new reality, they give me a voice. Each collage is the equivalent of a diary entry—I am speaking to you and others, telling you how I feel, what I think, what I crave, and what I despise.”
